Personal data will never be publicly accessible, used outside QIAGEN, subsidiaries or affiliated entities, or passed on to a third party. QIAGEN will exclusively use personal data to communicate directly with the person in question. We will under no circumstance sell, nor rent, personal data to any third party. Personal data is stored in a secure location, which is thoroughly protected against unauthorized access. QIAGEN cannot be held responsible for any misuse due to unauthorized access.

Introduction to who we are and our services QiIAGEN Bioinformatics, (part of QIAGEN Redwood City) is a bioinformatics company founded in 1998 that provides Web-based applications for analyzing and interpreting the biological meaning in genomic data.

Our portfolio of applications enable us to model, analyze, and understand biological and chemical systems at the core of life science research, identify causal variants from human sequencing data, and provide clinical decision support for oncology.

 

EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (EU-U.S. DPF), the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. DPF, and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (Swiss-U.S. DPF)

QIAGEN Redwood City complies with the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (EU-U.S. DPF), the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. DPF, and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (Swiss-U.S. DPF) as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce.  QIAGEN Redwood City has certified to the U.S. Department of Commerce that it adheres to the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework Principles (EU-U.S. DPF Principles) with regard to the processing of personal data received from the European Union in reliance on the EU-U.S. DPF and from the United Kingdom (and Gibraltar) in reliance on the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. DPF.  QIAGEN Redwood City has certified to the U.S. Department of Commerce that it adheres to the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework Principles (Swiss-U.S. DPF Principles) with regard to the processing of personal data received from Switzerland in reliance on the Swiss-U.S. DPF.  If there is any conflict between the terms in this privacy policy and the EU-U.S. DPF Principles and/or the Swiss-U.S. DPF Principles, the Principles shall govern.  To learn more about the Data Privacy Framework (DPF) program, and to view our certification, please visit https://www.dataprivacyframework.gov/.

 

Jurisdiction and Enforcement

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has jurisdiction and enforcement authority over QIAGEN Redwood City’s compliance with the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (EU-U.S. DPF), the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. DPF, and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (Swiss-U.S. DPF). Personal Data

QIAGEN Redwood City receives data from other data controllers who collect personal information directly from individuals. We request that all metadata uploaded to our applications that has individual personal information be de-identified, but data controllers may include customer personal data beyond our control to prevent it. In the event personal data is uploaded, all such personal data is encrypted and stored only for the purpose and intent of processing the underlying metadata. We do not access, modify, update, or delete personal data under any circumstances, except for that provided under the individual’s Right to Access.

 

Data Collection and Handling

QIAGEN Redwood City is not a data controller and does not collect personal information directly from individuals. Individual personal information is provided by transferring organizations such as laboratories. Thus, QIAGEN Redwood City handles personal data as a third party on behalf of other data controllers. Once data controllers upload personal information securely into our applications, it is stored in databases in encrypted form. We employ access restrictions based on the absolute minimum necessary to carry out tasks, strictly limiting the number of our employees who have access to individual personal data.

 

Personal Data Transfer to Third  Party Agents

QIAGEN Redwood City does not transfer personal data to third parties acting as our agents. Should future circumstances require the transfer of personal data to Third Parties acting as our agents, we shall provide individuals with the choice to opt-out prior to the sharing of their personal data.

 

Personal Data Transfer to Third Party Non-Agents

QIAGEN Redwood City does not transfer personal data to non-agent Third Parties. Should future circumstances require the transfer of personal data to non-agent Third Parties, we shall provide individuals with the choice to opt-out prior to the sharing of their personal data.

Since QIAGEN does not transfer any data to third parties for any reason we are not currently subject to the liability clause of the Data Privacy Framework (DPF) framework. We understand that should our policy change regarding the transfer of data we may become liable for the transfer of said data.

 

Right to Access Personal Data

QIAGEN Redwood City recognizes the right for individuals to access their personal data and to ensure that such data is accurate and relevant for the purposes for which it was collected and provided to us by the transferring organization. Data Subjects must provide only truthful, complete, and accurate information when submitting a request to correct, amend, or delete their personal information. We will endeavor to respond in a timely manner to all reasonable written requests to view, modify, block, or delete personal information from the Data Subject. Data Security

QIAGEN Redwood City has implemented administrative, physical and technical safeguards to protect individual personal information from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. Electronic individual personal data is stored on a secure network with firewall and intrusion protections, and access to our electronic information systems requires strong user authentication credentials or similar means. We use strong, industry-accepted encryption technology and protocols to protect individual personal information during transit and storage.

QIAGEN Redwood City is fully compliant with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Title II’s Security and Privacy Rules.

 

Exception to Personal Data Sharing

QIAGEN Redwood City may be required to disclose an individual’s personal information in response to a lawful request by public authorities, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements. Should we become subject to an FTC or court order based on non-compliance, we shall make public any relevant Data Privacy Framework (DPF)-related sections of any compliance or assessment report submitted to the FTC, to the extent consistent with confidentiality requirements.

 

Complaints and Resolution

In compliance with the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (EU-U.S. DPF), the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. DPF, and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (Swiss-U.S. DPF), QIAGEN commits to resolve complaints about your privacy and our collection or use of your personal information. Unresolved Complaints

QIAGEN Redwood City has further committed to refer unresolved privacy complaints under the Data Privacy Framework (DPF)  principles to an independent dispute resolution mechanism, the BBB Privacy Framework (DPF) , operated by BBB National Programs. If you do not receive timely acknowledgment of your complaint, or if your complaint is not satisfactorily addressed, please visit https://bbbprograms.org/programs/all-programs/dpf-consumers/ProcessForConsumers for more information and to file a complaint. This service is provided free of charge to you.

What else should I know about my privacy?

Although we will use all reasonable efforts to safeguard the privacy of your personal information, transmissions made by means of the Internet cannot be made absolutely secure. QIAGEN Redwood City assumes no liability for disclosure of data due to errors in transmission or unauthorized third parties.
